Gorgeous flowers on a small rounded tree from mid April. Flowers resemble M. liliiflora ‘Nigra’ but are far superior. Dark red-purple outside, starkly contrasting with the white inside and its light pink streaking. One of many great introductions from Brooklyn botanic Garden. M. lilliflora ‘Nigra’ x M. kobus, 1989.
